The 17th MBA Case Teaching Seminar of Central University of Finance and Economics successfully Held

On January 3, the “17th MBA Case Teaching Seminar of Central University of Finance and Economics” co-sponsored by the Business School, the MBA Education Center and the Graduate School of Central University of Finance and Economics was successfully held in the lecture hall of MBA Education Center. More than 70 people attended the meeting, including Li Tao, Vice President of Central University of Finance and Economics, Bai Yanfeng, Dean of the Graduate School of Central University of Finance and Economics, Xiao Tusheng, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Central University of Finance and Economics, Lin Song, Dean of the Business School of Central University of Finance and Economics and Director of the MBA Education Center, and MBA teachers and supervisors. The seminar was chaired by Professor Zhu Fei, Deputy Director of the MBA Education Center and Deputy Dean of the Business School, Central University of Finance and Economics Professor.

At the beginning of the seminar, Vice President Li Tao of the Central University of Finance and Economics delivered a speech. He pointed out that the MBA program of the Central University of Finance and Economics relies on the good reputation, brand value and high-quality resources of the University. Through 20 years of practical exploration and summary iteration, it has gradually formed a highly distinctive MBA talent training system. The past achievements are inseparable from the support and dedication of all the teachers. On behalf of the Party Committee of the university, he expressed his sincere gratitude to all the teachers who have been committed to promoting the construction and development of the MBA program.

He emphasized that in terms of MBA course teaching, it is a powerful starting point to improve the quality of MBA teaching by carrying out case teaching in an all-round way and continuously optimizing the approaches and methods of case teaching. In line with the theme of this MBA case teaching seminar, he raised two requirements. First, it is necessary to fully learn from the advanced experience summarized by well-known foreign MBA colleges and domestic first-class business schools in the process of case teaching to create differentiated and personalized teaching characteristics. Second, it is essential to actively innovate teaching methods, and integrate diversified teaching methods such as simulated teaching, practical teaching, and online and offline hybrid teaching on the basis of traditional classroom lectures and case teaching. Finally, he hoped that everyone would continue to work together to create new brilliance of the MBA program and jointly promote the high-quality development of the MBA program.

Bai Yanfeng, Dean of the Graduate School of the Central University of Finance and Economics, delivered a speech. According to him, with the progress and development of society, MBA teaching is extremely challenging now. “The whole year's work depends on a good start in spring.” In the new year he puts forward four hopes. First, it is expected that the Business School will make a breakthrough in professional doctoral programs; the second is to encourage MBA teachers to refine and apply for national teaching achievement awards; the third is to do a good job in the interdisciplinary integration of MBA programs; fourth, MBA case teaching should include new cases, such as new energy vehicles, and supply chain finance. He wished the MBA to become a more distinctive and high-quality development program in the future.

He pointed out that case teaching is an important way to strengthen the cultivation of practical ability of professional degree graduates, promote teaching reform, and stimulate the organic integration of teaching and practice. It is also an important means to promote the reform of the training model of professional degree graduates. The Graduate School has always attached great importance to the development and use of professional degree teaching cases, and has provided strong support for the construction of teaching case libraries and the compilation and publication of case collections. Next, the Graduate School will further promote case teaching and case library construction, strengthen the cultivation, promotion, and application of excellent case resources, continue to deepen the reform of professional degree graduate education, and promote the connotative improvement of graduate education quality. It is hoped that through the joint efforts of everyone, the development of case teaching in China will be promoted continuously.

At the seminar, Professor Hu Zuohao from the Department of Marketing at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University presented a keynote report entitled “Four Experiences of Doing a Good Job in Case Teaching.” Based on the "Marketing Management" course he taught, he provided a detailed description in five aspects: teaching objectives, syllabus, purpose of case teaching, cases involved and teaching arrangements, and teaching cases developed in the past four years.

Professor Jia Xiaojing from the Department of Supply Chain and Operations Management at the Business School presented a keynote report entitled “The Three Character Classic of Case Development.” Based on her writing experience, she pointed out that a good case study should focus on selecting appropriate topic, digging deep into materials, skillfully designing, and expressing oneself well. She then elaborated on these aspects.

Liu Shubo, associate professor of the Department of Strategy at the Business School, presented a keynote report entitled “Case Base Construction Project between Central University of Finance and Economics and China Greatwall Technology Group,” which gave a detailed introduction in four aspects: project background, topic selection, project characteristics and project plan. He stated that this is a long-term project that is very valuable for research.

Finally, Dean Lin Song expressed his sincere gratitude to all the teachers in the MBA program for their dedication and contribution. He said that case teaching is of utmost importance, and the future MBA program will focus on solving two pain points and one difficulty. First, how to take the MBA course; second, how to improve the quality of MBA papers; the third is how to build the discipline of business administration. He hoped that in the future, teachers would continue to focus on case development and discussion, and jointly improve the quality of MBA training.
