The 17th Session of the Business School’s Excellent Academic Forum Lecture Series in 2024 Is Successfully Held
On the afternoon of September 23, 2024, the Business School held the 17th Session of the Business School’s Excellent Academic Forum Lecture Series in 2024 at the Conference Room 615 of the Main Teaching Building on the Xueyuan South Road Campus of the Central University of Finance and Economics. Professor Chu Junhong from HKU Business School was invited as the guest speaker of this lecture. Teachers, postgraduate students and undergraduate students from the Business School attended this event.
This meeting was chaired by Assistant Professor Lin Ruobing from the Business School. Before the official start of this lecture, Ling Ruobing introduced Professor Chu Junhong's resume in detail. Professor Chu Junhong received a doctor's degree in law from Peking University and a doctor's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago, and successively worked in Peking University, the National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong. He is mainly engaged in quantitative research on marketing. His research fields include platform economy and sharing economy, network economy, big data and marketing, and e-commerce and so on. He has published more than 20 papers in top international journals, and has won the "Young Scholar Award" from the Marketing Science Institute in 2011 (the highest award in the American marketing circle) and many other awards. He has collaborated with a number of corporations on research, including Alibaba, Didi Chuxing, Homelink, KingMed Diagnostics, Comfort Taxi, Tianfangda Medical Technology, Kangkang Physical Examination, Lazada, SEA and Shengdacheng, and has provided policy advices to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) of Singapore, Singapore Customs, Singapore Productivity Center, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Singapore Airlines, and Singapore Changi Airport and so on.
The topic of Professor Chu's lecture is “How to Conduct Empirical Research”. Professor Chu introduced how to conduct quantitative and empirical research, including the sharing of experience in academic career planning (research questions, data acquisition, research methods and execution process, etc.), paper writing and revision, and manuscript submission and review process.
After the sharing, with regard to the topic of Professor Chu’s lecture, the attending teachers and students actively participated in the discussion about topics such as publication of high-level papers, research design and data analysis, further deepening their academic exchanges.
